TRANSIT ACCOMMODATION

About

Rishika Jain, Reshav Kundu and I worked together on this project as a part of Tata Steel Design Track. Ashray is a novel concept of transit accommodation, with the primary objective of giving those affected by natural disasters not just refuge but also hope and strength for the future.

The area provides room for ventilation and light in addition to meeting its fundamental demands. The overall design of the structure is modular. It is a flat-pack solution for easy transport and installation. Our team was fortunate, as Aashray won the first prize at the Tomorrow Lab competition.

Setting up the camp

Exterior

The flat-packed solution is opened to form the basic shape of the tent (cuboid).

The furniture inside is wall mounted, and needs to be dropped down once the tent is setup.

The interior provides people a queen size bed, a table, and a rack for storage, supported by 4 walls consisting a door, a window and a gable vents on the opposite end.
